This North Toronto Tudor was being completely updated, inside and out.  The owner hoped that new landscaping would highlight the home’s character and enable her to indulge in her gardening obsession.  I designed expansive planting beds on two levels, bordered by natural stone retaining walls.  The front walk became a series of wide stone steps and landings, designed to enhance the presence of the modest front entrance.  A second series of steps leads from the upper landing to a walkway routed along the side of the house to the back garden.  Planting was anchored with formal hedging and evergreens, with ornamental flowering trees and birch adding vertical interest.  Then I added the pretty.  English garden favourites - rose and lavender – to ensure that scent and colour take centre stage in this updated traditional approach.
