This was a mid-century Etobicoke bungalow that was anything but welcoming.  The young family who lives here asked for an updated functional front entrance that welcomed visitors from both the driveway and front walk.  I didn’t have a lot of real estate to work with, so designed a series of tiered landings and steps, laid out on a diagonal to the front entrance.  I opened up the porch area, and added planting beds and raised planters to balance all the hard surfaces with green.  The paving of the horizontal surfaces was matched to the existing driveway, and we used precast wall stone with strong horizontal lines to echo the stone of the home’s façade and stay on budget.  It was a dramatic and welcoming transformation, for both the homeowners and their suburban neighbours.
