What do you do when your non-existent back garden is located in a shared driveway and parking area for four mid-town buildings?  This family were newly moved in, and craving some outdoor space to call their own.  It was a tight area, and they still needed to park two cars, so I made use of every available inch and enclosed it with contemporary horizontal cedar fencing with decorative lattice details. Inside I designed an oasis of calm.  A clean-lined pergola shelters a comfortable seating area and screens the neighbours from view.  A sleek water feature muffles the sound of parking cars.  The upper deck features a screened outdoor kitchen and dining table adjacent to the family room indoors. And ten foot ornamental trees and lush plantings of conifers and grasses help keep the chaos on the other side of the fence enclosing this family’s private sanctuary.
